A CoinPayments Alternative Where You Hold the Keys

A Balance and a Wallet Behave Differently

Custody sounds abstract until something routine happens. Follow both lanes through four ordinary moments.

  1. A customer pays

CoinPaymentsThe payment is credited to your platform balance.

PaymentoThe payment lands at an address in your wallet.

  2. You want to use it

CoinPaymentsYou request a withdrawal, above a minimum that depends on the coin.

PaymentoIt is already yours. Spend, hold or convert it with the tools you use.

  3. You leave the service

CoinPaymentsYou withdraw your remaining balance before you go.

PaymentoNothing to withdraw. An embedded wallet exports with its keys.

  4. You need dollars in a bank

CoinPaymentsThe fiat off-ramp is inside the platform.

PaymentoNot offered. You convert through an exchange you choose.

A wallet you hold the keys to doesn't depend on any company staying open or reachable. Keeping that wallet secure is then your job.

Your Store Hears About Every Payment, Signed

Create the payment from your backend with the REST API and send the customer to Paymento's hosted checkout. When the payment confirms, your callback URL gets the order status with an HMAC-SHA256 signature, and the verify endpoint lets you double-check it before anything ships. Plugins and payment links run on the same flow.

Who Each One Suits

CoinPayments packs fiat, conversion and a long plugin list into one account. Paymento does less, and keeps every payment in your own wallet.

Stay with CoinPayments if

  • You want fiat on-ramp, off-ramp and auto-conversion inside one account.
  • Your store runs on a platform outside WooCommerce, WHMCS and OpenCart that CoinPayments has a plugin for.
  • A long track record matters most. CoinPayments reports over 250,000 merchants.
  • You want to go non-custodial without changing provider: CoinPayments offers DepiPay for that.

Choose Paymento if

  • Every payment should land in a wallet you control, not a platform balance.
  • You'd rather not have withdrawals as a step in getting paid.
  • Customers should pay without an account, and by QR code on Ethereum and Solana embedded stores.
  • You want a 0.5% fee with no monthly charge.

Switching From CoinPayments in Three Steps

If you like CoinPayments but want to stop holding funds on a platform, compare its separate non-custodial product, DepiPay, too. We would rather you choose with the full picture.

2xthe coin's network fee is CoinPayments' usual withdrawal minimum, so check small balances first.
  1. Withdraw your balance

Move what you hold on the platform to a wallet you control, coin by coin, above each withdrawal minimum.

    Before you startEach coin's minimum

  2. Connect Paymento

Add the WooCommerce, WHMCS or OpenCart plugin, or create payments through the API. Connect a wallet by xPub or public address.

    Store typeYour wallet or embedded

  3. Move your callbacks

Point order updates at Paymento's signed callback, confirm each order with the verify endpoint, then retire the old IPN handler.

CoinPayments Alternative: Your Questions

Custody and balances

The CoinPayments platform is. Its website states that custodial wallet services are provided by PaidInSatoshi Inc. and Centauri Pay LLC, and its FAQ lists custodial storage among its merchant services. DepiPay, a separate CoinPayments product, is described as non-custodial.

Withdraw it to a wallet you control. CoinPayments says withdrawal minimums vary by coin and are generally twice that coin's network fee, so very small balances in some coins may not be withdrawable on their own.

Only you. On a bring-your-own-wallet store Paymento never has your keys at all. On an embedded wallet store, every movement needs your passkey, and settlement can only go to the address you registered.

Fees and checkout

On the standard published rates, yes. CoinPayments lists 1% per payment and Paymento charges 0.5%, plus $0.20 per payment on an embedded wallet store. Both offer lower custom rates at higher volume.

They see a hosted checkout with your price in USD or EUR converted to the coin they choose. They never create an account. On an embedded wallet store, Ethereum and Solana payments work by address and QR code, while Tron asks them to connect a wallet.

Integration

Yes. Your backend can create each payment through the REST API and send the customer to Paymento's hosted checkout, or you can use payment links with no integration at all.

Yes, with payment links. They support daily, weekly, monthly and yearly billing with reminder emails and a grace period. Recurring billing is not available through the API or the plugins.
